FILLIES GUINEAS DOUBLE FOR BSA GRADUATE

Star three-year-old filly Missisippi Burning continued a great weekend for graduates of Bloodstock South Africa sales when she scored a courageous victory in Sunday’s G2 World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas on Sunday.

The Rathmor Stud bred filly made it four wins on the bounce when running on strongly, under jockey Craig Zackey to land Sunday’s 1600m classic by a neck over fellow BSA buy Mary O, who caught the eye with big effort back in second place.

Missisippi Burning has now won a pair of classics, with the Adam Marcus trained filly having romped to victory, last time out, in December’s G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth.

The filly was bought by owner Mario Ferreira for R380 000 at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, and she has now won five of just eight starts for prize money of R794 063.

Missisippi Burning is one of 99 stakes winners for deceased champion sire Captain Al, but is the first stakes winner for her Hussonet sired dam Spitfire Lady. The latter won four times up to 1600m and was also runner up in the Listed Flying Handicap.

She was one of two BSA graduates to win feature races at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, with exciting four-year-old Bunker Hunt putting up a hugely impressive display when landing Sunday’s G2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes.

One of two graded stakes winners for trainer Justin Snaith on Sunday, the Varsfontein Stud bred gelding blew his opponents away when storming home to land the Drill Hall Stakes by 1.6 lengths, while leaving G1 winners Kasimir and Vardy in his wake.

A son of champion, and former National Sale graduate, Dynasty, Bunker Hunt now looks a likely July hope for owner Sabine Plattner.

The gelding, who took his earnings to R567 500 with his win on Saturday-with the promise of plenty more to come, was a R700 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

Bunker Hunt, a half-brother to G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas runner up Silver Thursday, is out of Captain Al’s high-class daughter Secret Obsession, winner of the 2013 Syringa Handicap.
